Business Cards Project






For my business card project, I wanted to stay with a black and white aesthetic, similar to the expressionistic films of the 20th century. Additionally, I have continued to update my logo design, including adding some more color, but keeping a mostly black and white color pallet. For my first card design, i chose to follow a look that was inspired by film strips, including some discoloration on the sides for added effect. For my other cards, I chose to use a gradient effect to replicate a projector effect. Two of my cards use the term "As I Believe The World To Be, So It Is," which comes from old magic and alchamy rituals and philosophies. I think this saying ties heavily into filmmaking as anything can be created through the artform, and as common metals can be turned into gol with alchamy, simple scenes shot on sound stages could be transformed into a great piece of cinema with the propper resources.

For my final portfolio, I wanted to construct mine in a book or magazine format. I wanted to design the project in this way that way I can store it on a bookshelf and have it look natural rather than a series of horizontally printed pages. I wanted to keep the black and white theme to give a uniform sense to the print, like a screenplay. With that in mind, I also used the Courier font typeface to keep the theme. However, to add my own personality to the front and back covers, I chose to include my signature rather than just my typed name. Black and White to Color

 The image I chose to use for this project was from Halloween 2019, where I painted my face and wore clothes to look like a protestor from the movie Joker . In the photo, I had just gotten back from a party and was feeling exhausted, and had begun peeling the paint from my face. The reason why the paint was peeling was that I had used acrylic paints, which aren't healthy to put on faces, but I was broke and in art school so I used what I had. I felt like this photo captured me in a way that not a whole lot of images can, with me trying to be humorous but not afraid to allow the faults show.
